Monitoring Report - Oct 28 2013


Many international broadcasters have activated their B13 schedules, which has resulted in massive migration to the 6, 7, and 9 MHz bands for darkness multi-hop propagation. Frequency management planners are very nervous about use of the higher frequency spectrum, due to the Sunspot Cycle 24 having peaked, and 10.7 cm solar flux levels are fluctuating widely!

Note: Major broadcasters have expanded their output to the ME areas, with increased delivery of services in Pashto, Dari, Persian, Arabic, Amharic and Azeri. Click the link to see my summary.

Research of spectrum usage here in Melbourne on the morning of Oct 28 2013 (Oct 27 UTC date) in the window 1830 to 1900, revealed some new occupancies, including the following:
