Monitoring Research - 9 MHz and 11 MHz

Monitoring Research - 9 MHz and 11 MHz

Solar activity continues to be very low, and the latest data from the Dept of Meteorology (Sydney) is that the 10.7 cm solar radio flux has dropped to 81, and the daily Equivalent Smoothed Sunspot has fallen to 22. Those levels are  not expectged to change significantly.ly in the immediate future.

This means that propagation will be unreliable on long-haul, multi-hop transmission paths on frequencies above about 13 MHz for darkness or semi-darkness routes,  but is expected to be satisfactory on daylight paths.

Here in Melbourne, research of spectrum usage between 1830 and 1900 on April 25, 2017, revealed these notable occupancies on 9  MHz and 11 MHz, favouring short path (darkness) propagation from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
