Whilst doing a spectrum occupancy check between 0400 and 0500 on February
22, 2011, I was surprised at the high level signal from Radio Okapi, 11690,
from the Meyerton, South Africa site.
This was one of many signals intercepted in the 9 MHz and 11 MHz bands in
that time window, dominated by longpath from Africa, Middle East, and
Europe, and short-path from the Americas.
My monitoring was over at the Jumping Creek Reserve, Warrandyte State Park,
20 km east of central Melbourne, using the little Eton E5 receiver and 3m of
antenna.
This is a sample of occupancies observed:
9520 SRI LANKA. RFE-Iranawela, Tajik to 0400*
9625 CANADA CBC-Sackville Northern Service French/English
9755 CANADA RCI-Sackville Arabic to 0405*
11690 S. AFRICA R. Okapi, Meyerton, French/Lingala
11815 BRAZIL R. Brasil Central
