Episodes 251 and 252 of the Australian DX Report are now available for
downloading, or as Podcasts, at
Episode 252 has a special treat - a recording of the opening
announcements and intro music of an early episode of "The Air Adventures of
Biggles", the long running serial which was heard on Australian radio in
the 1940s and 1950s.
Even though the Biggles books by Captain W. E. Johns were popular worldwide,
Australia was the only country in the world to make them into a radio
serial.
It was called The Air Adventures of Biggles and it consisted of 1178
episodes of continuing 15 minute serials, produced from July 1949 until
March 1954, broadcast in the true Aussie tradition of Monday to Thursday.
The shows themselves are very exciting, being well produced with a strong
narrative, great music and effective sound effects.
I remember them well, with Biggles, Ginger, Algie, Bertie and the villian
Eric von Stalhein!
