Today, June 18 2015, mid-winter, SW propagation into Melbourne was represented by strong short path signals on 9 MHz in our late morning, up to about 0130, (11.30 am local) from Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.
After about 0130, short path propagation faded out, to be replaced with equally strong long path signals from Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and short path from the Americas and Asia.
The changeover from short to long path peaked at 0221, (12.21 pm local), the time when the Sun was at its highest altitude of 28.3 degrees above the horizon. At that time, the Sun was 151,993 km from Melbourne.
Between about 0130 and 0200, dual path propagation was evident, characterised by the usual fluttery fading, due to Antarctic absorption effects, and the differences in path lengths.
Signals of note between 0110 and 0200 included
