Propagation and Monitoring from Melbourne!

Propagation in to Melbourne continues to be excellent during our daytime hours, on frequencies lower than about 10 MHz, with the 7 MHz and 9 MHz bands open for the full 24 hours.

Winter officially starts tomorrow, and these good conditions should continue, allowing detailed study of propagation patterns and spectrum occupancies.

On May 30 2012 I visited one of my secret field monitoring sites on the Yarra River, at Witton's Bushland Reserve, in the Warrandyte State Park, 30 km east of central Melbourne, with surprising results in our mid-afternoon window!

Observations included the following:

49 mb

5910 COLOMBIA Alcaravan Radio 0530
6030 USA R.Marti, Spanish
6075 VATICAN VR, SMG, Latin Mass 0545

41 mb

7225 AUSTRIA Very strong signal from Trans World Radio Europe, via Moosbrunn, at *0545
7285 S. AFRICA R. Sonder Grense, Meyerton, Afrikaans. This is a very rare appearance of this frequency, which is a daytime service for Africa
