On Tuesday evening June 19 2012, an earthquake which occurred at around 8:53 pm local Australian Eastern Standard Time, had an epicentre near Moe around 120 km south-east of Melbourne, and was felt as far away as Wodonga on the state's border and the city of Ballarat west of Melbourne.
According to media reports, Victoria's buildings have come through the state's biggest earthquake in more than a century relatively unscathed.
Measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale, the earthquake equalled the largest ever recorded in the state, and was 10 km beneath the surface.
On the following morning, I did not notice any unusual HF propagation here in Mont Albert, 15 km east of central Melbourne.
However, solar activity had plummeted to a very low level by June 21, and the daily equivalent smoothed sunspot number had fallen to only 41.
It is not known in scientific circles whether this depressed level of solar activity was associated with the earthquake!
Propagation continues to be very good during our mid to late-morning window, with considerable activity observed on 9 MHz between 0030 and 0230. This summary of key occupancies of June 21 may be of interest, between 0030 and 0100, unless stated otherwise.
