MONITORING RESEARCH - 7 MHZ SPECTRUM

 

Solar Activity continues to be low,  with the 10 cm Solar Radio Flux down to 124, and the Equivalent Smoothed Sunspot Number having fallen to 66.

 

This means that long-haul, multi-hop propagation on darkness or semi-darkness paths on frequencies above about 14 MHz

will be unreliable whilstst those conditions persist.

 

We are on the plateau of Sunspot Cycle 24 and the new Cycle 25 is expected to be apparent by  mid-2015.

 

Propagation into Melbourne in the 7 MHz band  in our pre- and post-sunrise windows continues to be good, dominated by short (darkness) path transmissions from Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
