MONITORING RESEARCH - 11 MHZ SPECTRUM

 

Low levels of Solar Activity continue, causing unreliable propagation on frequencies above about 12 MHz on long-haul multi-hop paths across darkness or semi-darkness zones.

 

IPS (SYDNEY) REPORT of Aug 26 -  Solar activity was Low over the last 24 hours with region 2403 (S14W27) producing numerous C-class events flares, the largest being a C4.3 event at 0631. Region 2403 remains relatively unchanged in size and in magnetic complexity with the potential for further M-class events and possible X-class. Solar wind speed ranged between 400 km/s to 450 km/s over the UT day while Bz ranged fluctuated between +2nT and -5nT. An equatorial positioned coronal hole has moved into a geo-effective position with an anticipated arrival of its high speed solar wind stream on Aug 27 to early Aug 28. Solar activity is expected to be Low to Moderate over the next three days.

The 9  MHz band is represented by high occupancy during the evening period in Europe, the Middle East and Africa – this summary shows usage monitored here in Melbourne on August 2152015 across the 1830-1900 time span.

 

Of special interest:

 

- Broadcasts in Kirundi, to Africa, from the BBC (Yerevan relay) and VOA (Vatican Radio relay), both observed 1830-1900!
