Research into the top area of the 9 MHz spectrum in the Melbourne pre-sunrise window on Dec 13 2013 between 1730 and 1800 revealed substantial short path activity from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Signals followed the darkness route, arriving in to Melbourne from the west and north.
Of particular note were the VOA using the Issoudin (France) relay for its Oromo service, the VOK on a relatively new channel of 9890 and AWR’s Persian service from the Moosbrunn (Austria) relay on 9830.
